ShelfLife is a medication expiry date tracker designed for use by healthcare professionals to manage the contents of their response kits. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.
Information We Collect
When you create an account and use ShelfLife, we collect:
- Email address and password — used to create and authenticate your account via Firebase Authentication.
- Your name (optional) — a display name you choose, shown to other people in a kit or station you belong to.
- Kit data you enter — the names of your kits and stations, drug names, kit locations, and expiry dates. This is private to you unless you choose to share it (see “Sharing” below).
- Reminder preferences — when you want to be reminded and any pause period, stored in your account.
We do not collect your phone number, location, payment information, contacts, or any patient, health or biometric data. ShelfLife tracks the expiry dates of stock in a kit; it does not store information about patients.
Sharing
You can invite other people to a kit or station using an invite code. Anyone who joins with that code can see the kit's contents and the display names of the other people in it. Joining a kit lets that person edit it; joining a station lets that person view all the kits in it. You control who has your code and can reset it or remove people at any time. Information is only shared with people you invite.
How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate you when you sign in.
- To store and sync your kit data across your devices.
- To show shared kits and stations to the people you have invited.
- To schedule expiry reminder notifications on your device (when you turn this feature on). Reminders are created on your phone; we do not send them from a server or share your reminder settings with anyone.
We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not share it with third parties other than the service providers listed below. Information is only visible to other users when you choose to share a kit or station with them. We do not use your data for advertising or marketing purposes.
Data Storage
Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Authentication), hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure. Data is stored in accordance with Google's security and compliance standards. Your private data is accessible only to your authenticated account. Shared kits and stations are accessible only to the people who belong to them.
Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and your data at any time inside the app (Settings → Delete account). Kits that only you belong to are deleted; kits and stations shared with other people are handed to another member so they are not lost. You can also contact us at the email address below.
